Early Life Details (Trailer Park, Sports, Jail)

Born and raised in a mobile home park in Baldwin Park, CA, Lefty Gunplay has grown up in the community. He was brought up by his mother (from Guatemala) and his grandmother. He had left home to his father and grew up with his mother (Guatemala) and grandmother. From the start, it was a hardship.

From a young age, he was interested in music and played Kanye West and 50 Cent’s tracks at an elementary school talent show to which he was signed up; he won. Played varsity ball, football and basketball in high school.

But street life caught up with him. At 13, he hit the streets, at 14, he was arrested for an alleged shooting, and spent three years in juvenile detention. He has described juvie as more vicious than prison.

After high school, he was incarcerated again for several years. During this time, he met rapper Jap5, who encouraged him to rap. That push changed his life forever. In total, he served around 9 years between juvenile and adult facilities.

Police Records

Lefty Gunplay’s old street life came back to trouble him.

In February 2025, El Paso Police stopped a car because the occupants were not wearing seat belts. Lefty was in that car. It was a simple traffic stop. But when Lefty was taken to jail, officers found 64.96 grams of meth on him. He was charged with:

  1. Possession of a controlled substance

  2. An item that is prohibited in a prison or jail facility.

In Texas, these charges can lead to up to 20 years in prison. But Lefty paid a $35,000 bond and was released the same day.

Just a few weeks later in March 2025, Baldwin Park Police arrested him outside the Rolling Loud festival — right before he was going to perform. Authorities took him into custody after discovering an active warrant tied to a weapons charge dating back to 2023. His bail this time was set at $500,000.

Quote — El Paso Arrest

After getting out of jail, Lefty spoke to host Patti Diaz on Power 102.1 FM. He kept it short but honest:

Later, I will share more details about what really happened. But if you know, you know. I feel like I need to make it up to my El Paso fans. Things did not go as planned, but everything happens for a reason. I love Texas. Hopefully, we can make it right.

When asked if he has problems with Texas rappers, he simply said:

Not everything you read or hear online is true.

Street Identity

Lefty Gunplay is not a character. He is on the streets.

Baldwin Park, California, made him and his voice, his lyrics, his pain. He never chased radio hits. Every rap line comes from a trailer park childhood, years in jail, and a forgotten community.

His name, Lefty Gunplay, is not for shock. It is his real story. Even after winning a Grammy with Kendrick Lamar, the streets never left him.
